Huddle is a collective group based in Stockton created by the company TenSpace in order to help redevelop the downtown and historical areas of the city. The goal is to also offer programs for local businesses, artists, companies and to help inspire and motivate the local community.
Upon arriving at Huddle the director Matthew Amen was spoken to and asked his opinion on what Huddle is.“Huddle is a place where we can all come together in one common place and do extraordinary things. It’s a place that offers many opportunities for our community, to develop, grow, and evolve. For some this is also a home, and we consider ourselves as one big family. This area is available and shared amongst all of us, because we have so many different groups here.”
“The beauty of this is that we get people from all walks of life, from all different types of backgrounds and interests, and we get them to come together as one, to create even more spectacular projects and shows and art, etc. you name it. They have that freedom to do that here. To express themselves however they choose,” said Amen.
Huddle is involved in many projects around Stockton. Organizations usually come together to collaborate with the collective.
Huddle essentially offers a ‘space’ in which people are free to develop their ideas and creations, while also promotes a fun and exciting co-working environment.
Due to the heavy involvement with the many collaboration projects of Stockton, Huddle has slowly begun expanding its resources and has a lot of access to the many ongoing events and the ‘scene’ in the (Stockton) area.
“We have many projects in motion right now, we have a young entrepreneurial program that we just started for the youth and many other labs for them, we currently working on a mural project with help from the city of Stockton in order to promote the art scene, to add to that we have a bunch of shows and exhibits coming up in the following weeks. We also partner up a lot with the Sycamore to host really cool events, a lot of which are going to be happening in the following weeks as well.”, stated Erik Johanson, Huddle creative director. “The ball is honestly always rolling around here, we’ve always got something going on and it’s great to be able to give back to our community and create all these sorts of unique opportunities for them. And there’s so much more to come! The possibilities are endless.”
For those looking to get more immersed in the city, or develop their own mark on it, Huddle is a place to start.
We sat down and asked one of the current members of Huddle, Samuel Altamarino, what his thoughts were on the space. “ It’s definitely a place that has given me the opportunity to develop my works and my art. Since joining here I, as well others around me have noticed a huge improvement in my photos, I can definitely see myself sticking around and seeing where Huddle can take me.”
Huddle provides types of memberships depending on needs and activities done within the space. Different levels of membership also allow for more access to other resources available, as there are also many other companies already based within Huddle.
For example, there is a professional multi-media company “Heavy Crown Studios” that by paying for a higher-level membership would give you access to their studio and lab for your usage. Hence, the ‘co-working’ environment.
Huddle is located the second floor of 110 N. San Joaquin Street. For more information call (209) 323-4389.
